Technical SEO Introduction and Checklist

During the past few days I’ve spent my evenings and weekends with putting this list together that you can find down below this article. This reflects my usual approach for a standard technical SEO check.
Lately there seems to be some kind of confusion when it comes to SEO. Everyone is talking about content production and content publishing (see my article about context over content) and many times forget about the technical aspect of it.

Technical SEO is the groundwork for success.

Think about it: In earlier times, pre internet, there were books, magazines and newspapers. They were the best medium for written content as radio was for audio and TV for visual content. When the internet was hitting in, media publishers were the first ones to offer platforms where content could be consumed. Nowadays it’s litteraly everyone who has access to the internet. On the one hand, social media platforms offer a good place where you can publish almost any content, on the other hand, content platforms like medium.com, YouTube, WordPress, tumblr or soundcloud offer accessable platforms to publish (almost) any content for free.

If you have your own website, blog or shop, you have to care about your technology behind it. I encourage you to take advantage of it and try to understand it as well as possible. This is the reason why I put these slides together. They should help you with analyzing your technical SEO capabilities and where you can improve your presence.
